Is the apartment that you are applying for within your budget? Conventionally, it is considered responsible not spend more than 33% of your income on your rent.
Know your credit score.
Your credit score is important. If your credit is not great, you should be prepared to supply the landlord with financial statements or have a co-signer.
Prepare references.
It is always helpful if you have references available to hand in with your application. Landlord and employers are ideal references.
Security deposits.
In British Columbia, the standard security deposit is half the first month’s rent.
