Tenant Responsibilities As a tenant, you have certain responsibilities in order to fulfill your obligations during your tenancy of your apartment. Most of these duties should be outlined in the tenancy agreement, and include the following: · Paying the rent (and any utilities under the lease) on time · Maintain the property in a normal standard of cleanliness and repair · Not to disturb or annoy other tenants · To make any repairs caused by the tenant · To contact the landlord immediately for emergency repairs As a tenant you are paying for the right to use the landlord’s property for a period of time specified by the tenancy agreement. You are expected to return the property to the landlord at the end of the tenancy in the same condition that you took possession of the property (normal wear and tear excepted). This means that the tenant is responsible for replacing light bulbs, broken glass, damaged walls, and any other items that may be damaged by the tenant (or their guests). In short you are asked to be a normal, responsible human being. There are 2 reasons why you should perform your obligations spelled out in your lease. 1) Any damage caused by you (or your guests) and repaired by you will be deducted from your security deposit. 2) It is the proper thing to do in order to get a good recommendation if you ever decide to move into another apartment |
