New Tenant Information
As a prospective tenant you should make it as easy as possible for a landlord to rent to you. Most landlords require a minimum amount of information in order to make a decision regarding leasing to a prospective tenant. Many of these items are also required by law. The items which are required by most landlords include: - Social Identification Number (SIN)
- Proof of Income (pay stub or other proof)
- Reference from current or previous landlord
- Credit Check
As a prospective tenant you will be asked to fill out a rental application which will provide the landlord with all the information that they require to help them make their decision. In order to make their decision easier, make sure that you have the following information: - The information listed above
- Phone numbers of employment
- Phone numbers of previous landlord
- Phone numbers of personal references
Most landlords will require a credit check, and you may be asked to sign a form allowing the landlord to perform the credit check. You should be aware of what items are on your credit report, so that you can explain any derogatory items. It is usually better to be upfront with any credit problems that you know will appear on your credit report. Other information that you should have with you when you apply for an apartment include: - Driver’s license (if applicable)
- Vehicle license plate number (if parking spots are designated)
- Pet information (if applicable)
